Team & Leadership

Hans Albrecht, MBA, CIM – President, CIO and Manager

Hans is an options, volatility and equity fund manager veteran who began his career as a professional options market maker for Levesque Beaubien on the Toronto and Montreal option exchanges.  He then traded a long/short gamma volatility book for National Bank Financial for almost a decade, specializing in options/volatility arbitrage and directional gamma scalping. He then transitioned as a volatility trader/portfolio manager for a broad suite of active listed overlay funds at Horizons ETFs, where he co-managed one of the largest listed options books in the country.   Fund portfolios he managed were index, sector and commodity focused: US large cap equities, Nasdaq100, international index and individual, gold miners, as well as gold/silver/natural gas and oil covered call funds.   Overlay strategies encompassed income generation and capital preservation - covered calls, put sales and black swan put protect funds.  He did this for a decade, growing several of his funds 5-fold, one of his covered call funds winning a Lipper Award along the way.  All told Hans has directly managed $1 billion in options-based assets across his various buy and sell-side mandates, and has generated $750 million in options cash flow for investors.   Hans has been a regular in the media, appearing frequently on BNN Business television, TD Ameritrade’s Market Show, Nasdaq’s TradeTalks Show, Bloomberg TV, the Rob Snow Business radio segment and many others.  He is an MX All-Star of Options Trading and has been asked to speak on numerous expert derivatives panels.  He has written articles for the Globe & Mail, Financial Post, the Montreal Exchange and Investment Executive.  He has been quoted in over 75 different articles for magazines and publications like the Globe & Mail, Nasdaq, Advisor.ca, Investor's Digest, Bloomberg and Wealth Professional, discussing covered calls, markets, precious metals, volatility and technology.  He has guest lectured on markets and options trading at McGill and Cornell Universities and has been a headline speaker on volatility trading for the CFA Society.  Hans holds an Ivy League MBA from Cornell University and the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation.

In his spare time Hans has been known to write songs, ski, and golf (he’s a 2 handicap on the driving range).  He is blessed with a wonderful wife and three amazing children.

Actual strategy returns from live portfolios may differ materially from hypothetical returns. There is no substitute for actual returns from a live portfolio. HYPOTHETICAL PERFORMANCE IS NOT A GUARANTEE OF FUTURE RETURNS. In fact, hypothetical performance results have many inherent limitations and no representation is being made that any trade will or is likely to achieve profits or losses similar to those shown or that a market for securities will exist as shown. There are frequently sharp differences between hypothetical performance results and the actual results subsequently achieved by any particular trade or trading program.

It is possible that the markets or pricing will be better or worse than shown in the projections; that the actual results of an investor who invests in the manner these projections suggest will be better or worse than the projections; and that an investor may lose money by investing in the manner the projections suggest. Simulated returns may be dependent on the market and economic conditions that existed during the period. Future market or economic conditions can adversely affect the returns.
